Through our outreach projects we have visited individual women, identified their needs and offered them the most appropriate help and support. We have advocated on behalf of our clients in the courts, schools, police, refuges, social services and all other statuary and voluntary organisation related to their needs. We have provided interpreting and translation services for our clients and helped many other organisations with their publicity and their interpretation requirements in Kurdish, Farsi and Arabic. Our outreach efforts included: participating in meetings, training courses, and conferences; building strong relationships with the House of Lords and MPs, Home Office and National Asylum Support Service (NASS); visiting schools, exchanging visit with voluntary and statuary organisations; taking active membership and participating in many networks and forums. Taking part in making efforts to the policy makers to identify the needs of women with different backgrounds; identifying the different kind of violence against women, for instance: “honour” killings, and forced marriages along with female genital mutilation, rape, domestic violence etc. to strengthen the efforts of the Lobbying and organising campaigns for women’s rights and refugees, distributing leaflets and making networks was outreach workers activities. IKWRO works intimately with schools and colleges, social services, police, solicitors, GPs, and counsellors, in order to be able to help young Iranian, Kurdish, Arab and Afghan women who suffer from domestic violence, are at risk of “honour” killing or may be, or have been, forced into marriage, who are in need of help and support. Through our outreach working projects we have been able to offer information to teachers and staff in schools and colleges on these problems, to provide solutions and to indicate the available help they can access.
